In the last two years the successful teamwork of the residents' group, the TTP and the residents themselves has ensured significant progress on addressing each of the 12 priorities. There is evidence to show that these changes are sustainable.
The TTP agreed to finance the first two years of the PCSOs salary. Devon and Cornwall Police has provided assurance that the PCSOs will remain dedicated to Treneere.
Early this year the PCSOs also received ‘The Commander’s Certificate’ in recognition of their hard work, dedication and commitment to Neighbourhood Policing.
The number of community events is ever increasing and self-sustaining, bringing large numbers of residents together. For example, an annual festival has been established with nearly 300 people attending last year’s event. Activities weeks held across school holidays also attract large numbers with up to 400 people taking part on each occasion.
The residents are demonstrating a long-term commitment to being healthier and greener. Almost 300 residents are taking advantage of the free ‘Passport to Leisure’ providing them with greatly reduced entry to Penzance Leisure Centre’s facilities. Popular too with the young residents is the junior play area including a skateboard park.
In addition, there is also evidence to show more environmental awareness. Residents are composting, growing their own organic vegetables and benefit from a free ‘green’ waste collection. Solar voltaic panels have also been installed in some buildings.
Today, attitudes to Treneere are remarkably different. These are shaped by the TTP newsletters and positive media coverage, but most importantly by the residents themselves.
