12 key priorities

What local people wanted to change on Treneere and how this has been achieved

Community day on the Princess May recreation groundThe 2006 residents survey identified 12 key priorities for action clearly marking what local people (65% living in the area for more than five years) really wanted to change on the estate.

The top 12 priorities were:

  • modernisation, pride, and improvement to houses and gardens
  • more leisure facilities and activities for young people
  • more policing, especially at night
  • eliminate drug dealing
  • youth club
  • to be rejuvenated, clean and well maintained…
  • a community building
  • less anti-social behaviour by young and old
  • more dog bins/less dog mess
  • more litter bins/less litter
  • football pitch
  • bus service

Significant progress has been achieved on all the above through the devoted teamwork of the residents’ group, the TTP and the residents themselves.

Keeping Treneere cleanTreneere is now a cleaner, greener and safer estate. Two dedicated Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) have made policing more visible with crime reducing by a third over the past two years. A ban on alcohol on the streets has resulted in local people reporting that they are turning more towards local facilities and engaging in social activities. This is working to lessen the fear of crime.

The school has reported a significant reduction in truancy, graffiti and anti-social behaviour since the introduction of the ‘Pass Scheme’. PCSOs stop any young people not at school asking them to show a ‘Pass’ giving them permission to be off the premises.

More litter and dog foul bins have been provided, gardening tools are available for hire and a team carry out gardening ‘makeovers’ for older and disabled people, all resulting in a cleaner community.

We also lease premises to the TTP for use as an office, meeting place and ‘drop-in’ for local people and partner staff.
