We have received £54,000 towards the costs of installing ground source heat pumps into nine homes at Trewellard. The funding came from the Cornwall Sustainable Energy Partnership (CSEP), rewarded for its plans to install energy efficient measures in over 3000 homes across Cornwall between 2003 and 2006.
We are a key delivery partner in meeting this target through the Home Health programme generating a further £780,000 to continue insulating homes and supporting micro-renewables between 2006 and 2009.
As well as benefiting residents and protecting the environment, the heat pump installation at Trewellard will help meet another target in Cornwall’s 2006-2009 Local Area Agreement. Achievement of this target will be rewarded with further funding of £1m.

Renewable heating is an important part of the solution for tackling climate change, rising fuel bills and future proofing Cornwall’s housing stock, particularly in off gas areas. And thanks to PHA, Cornwall is recognised nationally as a centre of expertise on heat pump applications.”
Mike and Elaine Smith who are one of the nine families benefiting from the new system said: “In the last few months we have noticed a dramatic difference in our home. Our bedroom has dried out we have the added bonus of constant hot water. We have the luxury of a warm home with hot water costing no more than we were paying before heating one room!”
PHA and Earth Energy pioneered the use of ground source heat pumps in existing buildings. The project at Chy an Gweal, Ludgvan completed in July 2004, was the UK’s first multiple retrofit in social housing.
