Residents of Penwith Housing Association’s sheltered housing at Marazion have raised over £3,200 towards new medical equipment for use at the town’s surgery.
Angela Hutchings, who has recently retired as the local sheltered homes support worker for Penwith Housing Association (PHA), handed the cheque to Dr Simon Thacker. “I looked after about 80 older people at the 60 sheltered homes at St Levan Road and Close, Boltern Road and Trevenner Lane” she explained. “We raised £3,262.94 over four years with our weekly bingo sessions and our lottery bonus ball number competitions. The residents decided to give it to the surgery, towards a piece of equipment, to be chosen by the doctors for use here for the patients”.
Thanks were expressed by Dr Thacker, Andy Moore (PHA Chief Executive) and the practice manager, Jackie Brown.
Also in the group were Drs Neil Walden and Deidre Killeen, with Gill Barnes, new chair of the Peninsula Tenants Committee and Steve Adey (PHA Supported Housing Service Manager).
“We are very grateful for the gift towards equipment” said Mrs Brown.
The Marazion practice has some 7,000 patients from Ashton to Breage to Marazion and Penzance; St Erth; Ludgvan; Crowlas and the large surrounding rural district, with a dispensary service at the surgery that has six doctors and a total of 24 staff.
