Suggestion Pays Off

Phil Tregonning wins the annual suggestion scheme award.

A practical suggestion by Phil Tregonning has won him a certificate and cash prize from his Penwith Housing Association (PHA) employers.

“I thought it would save resources, work and costs” said Phil who is regularly on duty at the group’s contact centre in Penzance. “We have a lot of people at our blocks of flats and communal housing ringing the PHA to say that the bottom panes of the entrance doors have been broken. We have a number of these reports from residents – with the danger from broken glass lying about the entrances. I thought we must find a solution so suggested we keep the top panels of glass in the doors but when the bottom ones are broken that we replace them with wood panels painted in the same colours as the door frame itself”.

Phil added “This has already proved useful and effective and now we should have fewer problems from broken glass. They will be replaced immediately with wood when we learn of damage and have already done this at two places at Penzance, St Clare Flats and Prospect Place”.

He is delighted to have won the contest.

Andy Moore, PHA’s Chief Executive commented “Phil’s suggestion is one of a number that are submitted by our staff with a view to improving our service. PHA has had a staff suggestion scheme for a number of years. Any suggestions put forward are reviewed by a panel, including residents, and the best ones are supported with a small cash prize. Staff then get the opportunity every year to decide which was the best suggestion and this receives the annual prize. We have benefited from a number of practical suggestions which have saved us money and improved our service to residents. I would like to congratulate Phil for his helpful suggestion and encourage his colleagues to keep sending in their ideas”.
