Housing qualifications for residents
Our residents by using the “Active Learning for Residents (ALfR)” initiative can become student members of the Chartered Institute of Housing. Government funding gives up to 100 residents the chance to develop their current experience. “This will give an independent accreditation in housing, neighbourhood and community skills” said PHA Chief Executive, Andy Moore. “It recognises residents' competencies and abilities and in turn gives confidence at organising and leading residents meetings; experience at committee level and in community action. We should recognise these skills and support, guidance and encouragement will be given helping to develop further learning needs” added Mr Moore. The scheme will run during the coming year and could help towards a career in housing. Several members of our Tenants Committee and residents associations have signed up. Madie Parkinson-Evans of PHA, is leading the project and is a member of the national advisory group. She says: “This is a great opportunity to recognise the knowledge, skills and experience that many of our residents already have. The pilot is a wonderful chance to further improve learning with formal qualifications.”
