Residents of Newlyn participate in the Support Our Soldiers local campaign
Parcels for our heroes overseas have been supplied by eager residents at Newlyn in the ‘Support our Soldiers’ (SOS) local campaign.
The latest newsletter of the Gwavas Residents Association gives information on a new collection following the great success of their earlier scheme.
“The parcels are a little larger than a shoe box and people are being invited to give items to fill them” said Chair, Jenny Beamish. “within a fortnight of the first appeal we had enough for 40 boxes. People have been incredibly generous and like to feel they are helping our troops”.
Everyone on the estate will receive a letter with news of the new one. Toiletries; pens; sweets; stationery; batteries and confectionery are included.
The first boxes were packed and wrapped by Jenny along with Tina Knipe; Sheila Davy; John Kettless; Jill Burrows and Julia Wadey. The neighbourhood beat manager, Police Constable James Perkins and PCSO, Jeremy Kewn, were also involved and helped post the parcels.
