It can now be revealed that Mears Limited are going to be the new contractor carrying out all response maintenance, gas servicing and voids work to PHA and DCHA properties in Cornwall.
The decision to award the contract to Mears was finalised with DCHA and the PHA Board on Thursday 11th June. The new 5-year contract will provide services for all PHA and DCHA general needs, sheltered and supported properties in Cornwall.
When the new contract goes live on Monday 3rd August 2009, it will replace any arrangements PHA and DCHA currently have with existing contractors carrying out response maintenance, gas servicing and voids work for PHA and DCHA in Cornwall. However, existing cyclical maintenance contracts not covered by the contract will continue as they are - e.g. external painting contracts.
There has been significant resident involvement throughout the whole procurement and decision-making process. Tenant representatives worked with us to help check contractor's capabilities and performance on the ground. Tasks included: scoping out the design of the new service; deciding how it should be delivered; developing the tender documentation; deciding which contractors should be short-listed; evaluating the tenders received; interviewing contractors and visiting a reference site for a similar contract to ours.
We will continue to work with our existing contractors in the normal way over the remaining weeks leading up to the new contract starting and through the transitional arrangements.
