Gill, who has Ted Taylor of St Erth as vice-chair, will lead the PHA and Devon & Cornwall Housing Association (DCHA) residents group , representing people from Bude to St Buryan and from Saltash to Sennen.
She has been a tenant for ten years and also takes a civic interest in her home town as a member of the Marazion Town Council for the past 18-months.
And her home has been one of the 95 in the town improved through the latest stage of the multi-million pound Decent Home programme, with new kitchen and bathroom.
“The end result is great and I feel lucky to have had so much input into the planning of it” she recorded in her diary of the progress.
This huge ten-year programme is now at the halfway stage under PHA’s Property Services Director, Jonathan Sprague, due for completion in 2010-11 with the final groups of homes – nearly 200- at Newquay, Hayle, Redruth, St Austell and Truro districts.
Gill plans a series of four Peninsula committee meetings a year together with four for each of the sub-groups throughout the county.
She looks forward to the appointment of a Resident Involvement Officer as the link between tenant and committee and is particularly interested in the ground maintenance work on the estates, covering the general public areas, pathways and hedges.
“There will be a great benefit for everyone if we can get these strengthened working links with PHA and DCHA and through good communication iron out any differences.
“I want the committee to be open and not ‘behind closed doors’ so that no resident feels neglected. I am all for getting everyone involved.”
She was active in the safety and security ‘Road Shows’ held at Truro, Penzance, Camborne, Saltash and St Just this past year with the co-operation of fire service and police. As a result some 35 home safety checks were carried out by the fire brigade.
Gill and Ted succeed Carol Bosworth of Trewellard and Jenny Beamish of Newlyn who retired after two years in the leading roles.
