Prompt action helps residents at St Clare

Emergency services minimise inconvenience after a fire

On Sunday 29 July there was a fire in an upper floor flat at St Clare, Penzance, leading to the evacuation of 20 households.

Fortunately, fire damage was limited to two flats but water entering other properties meant we needed to arrange electrical checks and cleaning .

Prompt action by the emergency services and the coordination of the emergency planning teams from a number of agencies ensured that the inevitable inconvenience to residents was minimised. With the exception of the two fire damaged flats all residents returned to their flats later that day.

Andy Moore, PHA chief executive said "our thanks go to the emergency services, including district council and county council emergency planning teams and all contractors who assisted with the aftermath of the fire.

Their smooth operation helped residents return to their homes as quickly as possible following necessary safety checks. We would also like to thank residents and neighbours for their perseverance and cooperation in what was a stressful episode for all concerned."
