Only one percent of organisations in the country have achieved the new Investors in People Bronze award. And Penwith Housing Association (PHA) in Cornwall is one of those very few.
Nigel Glanvill, PHA’s senior personnel officer at Penzance, said this national recognised quality standard for business improvement, “through people” recently launched its new approach.
The Association manages well over 6,000 homes in the county and is part of the Devon and Cornwall Housing Group which operates throughout the two counties. “We are very proud to have our high standards of people management recognised. The Bronze Award is a great indicator of our commitment to continuous improvement and we look forward to the challenge of working towards the Silver and Gold levels over the coming years. Our organisation excels in sharing the work load as a team and relishes the opportunity to ‘grow roles’ by allowing people to take on more responsibility and ‘Investors’ has helped to enhance all this”. Mr Glanville added.
The certificate for PHA’s commitment to its staff was presented to Chief Executive, Andy Moore, at Penzance by Clive Tabiner, the Investors in People consultant who carried out the successful assessment in July, with PHA joining an exclusive group of employers.
To gain the award firms need a minimum of 26 requirements over and above the Investor in People standard marque. Mr Moore remarked “This is a fantastic achievement for us as a company and one that we are all really proud of. Gaining this Investors in People accolade has been a challenge – and one that involves the whole team. And the extra Bronze status is great recognition for the hard work that all the staff have put in”.
PHA has been successful in adopting and maintaining the necessary three fundamental principles:
• A plan to improve performance – from business goals to leadership strategies
• Implementing these and taking action to improve the performance of the organisation
• Evaluate and adjust the strategies, measuring their impact on the performance of the business.
