Penwith Housing Association (PHA) is taking steps to make our staff aware of stress and how to reduce it.
A series of events this coming week (Nov 6 - 10) is intended to"flag up the importance of sleep, diet and exercise in the maintenance of good health". These include a ghost tour, a healthy lunch and a town trail walk around Penzance.
They have been arranged for staff of the Penwith Housing Association (PHA) to mark National Stress Awareness Day. And on the day itself (Wednesday 1 November) staff were encouraged to stop and smile for a minute at 2.00 pm!
"I am happy we are doing our part to draw attention to the issue and to promote tried and tested ways of reducing its effect" says Andy Moore, PHA's Chief Executive. "It has become a national issue with many people reporting greater pressure at work and in life generally. I am anxious that we do all we can to reduce the causes of stress in the workplace and of helping staff with a problem".
Sessions on relaxation techniques, self-esteem and conflict resolution are among the events. On Monday (06.11.06) local historian, Margaret Perry, leads an hour's walk around the Penzance town trail from St John's Hall.
An "Infotainment" session on Tuesday (07.11.06) will be presented by Martin Craven, in association with 'Life Unlimited' on the theme 'Why does it take four minutes to boil an egg?' This explores the "psychological drivers that underpin stress and provides an insight into some brain management techniques to help you live a more fulfilled life".
On Wednesday (08.11.06) there will be a relaxing healthy lunch, with Denys Stephens, PHA's Senior Architectural Assistant playing the lute.
Nigel Glanvill presents a session on 'Individual Styles under Stress - Conflict Resolution and Crucial Conversations' on Thursday (09.11.06) at lunchtime.
It is hoped Sir Humphry Davy, Penzance's greatest son and inventor of the miners safety lamp - his statue dominates the main street - may make a guest appearance during the 'Ghost Tour' on Thursday evening. Ian Addicoat, local ghost researcher and author will lead.
The final event is a presentation by PHA's Madie Evans on 'Look on the Bright side of Life' on Friday (10.11.06) …. Ten ways to find out about yourself you didn't know before.
Julie Sims of the Association has been arranging the events. |
