Penwith Housing Association has revealed detailed drawings for the proposed scheme to redevelop 20 existing Meadow Flats (Nos. 25 – 44) next to Tate St Ives.
At a pre-meeting of the St Ives Town Council on 3rd December 2009, PHA’s Chief Executive, Andy Moore, Property Services Director, Jonathan Sprague and Cedric Wynter of local architects Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole revealed the detailed drawings for this high profile site which overlooks Porthmeor Beach. Town Councillors received a presentation on the design drawings as a preview of the planning application due to be considered by Cornwall Council.
Over three weeks of site investigation work, completed at the end of October this year by PHA’s consultants and contractors, included deep drilling to establish the nature of below-ground conditions and the location of Blue Elvan rock on the site. The final scheme drawings are the culmination of many months of work consulting with the Meadow Flats residents advisory group and other key stakeholders which included collaborative working with Tate St Ives and its advisers. Tate St Ives are currently exploring the building of a gallery extension on the top half of PHA’s Meadow Flats site below the Barnoon car park.
The proposed PHA scheme, involves the demolition of 20-flats built in the1950’s and the rebuilding of a new block of 26-flats which will have lifts, car parking, a communal lounge for residents and will make use of sustainable forms of energy. The scheme also provides for a new public footpath immediately in front of the development. All of the new flats will be affordable housing for rent and residents temporarily moving out of the old flats will be given the opportunity to move back into the newly built flats.
PHA is organising a public exhibition of the proposal drawings in the Greta Williams Room, St Ives library, Gabriel Street, St Ives, TR26 2LX between 2.00pm and 6.00pm on Thursday 17 December 2009. Members of the public will be able to drop in to view the planning application drawings being submitted to Cornwall Council, which is in addition to the statutory planning application consultation process.
