Anti-social tenant evicted at Marazion
Taking a firm line on anti-social behaviour
Success in excluding an anti-social tenant at Marazion has been achieved by Penwith Housing Association (PHA) after many months of time consuming work. Andy Moore, Chief Executive of PHA commented that "we view eviction as a last resort, but for very serious or persistent anti-social behaviour we apply to Court for possession in order to safeguard the quality of life of other residents. In this instance we first served Notice of intention to seek possession in 2003 and following continued anti-social behaviour and extensive court action, we succeeded in removing the resident this November. This was only made possible with the support of residents whose quality of life was suffering". The Devon and Cornwall Police said they were very pleased the Association had taken this firm stance with an individual who had been guilty of anti-social behaviour. "A minority of residents in the Penzance policing area take part in anti-social behaviour which affects the quality of life for others. If people are going to persistently upset the community where they live, then they are not welcome. This eviction should be seen as a stern warning to those who act with disregard to the feelings of others. The police and Housing Association will continue to work closely to ensure tenants behave in a responsible manner". This view was echoed by Julian Commons, Anti-Social Behaviour co-ordinator for the West Cornwall Anti-Social Behaviour Team "This example of positive action sends a message to communities across West Cornwall that the Association responds proportionately and robustly to issues relating to anti-social behaviour" said Julian Commons, Anti-Social Behaviour co-ordinator for the West Cornwall Anti-Social Behaviour team. "PHA continues to work with the West Cornwall team and other partners in making communities safer places to live".
