PHA sustainability initiatives recognised at National Awards

Prestigious national companies joined by PHA in the final for the British Renewable Energy Awards in London.

Prestigious national companies were joined by Penwith Housing Association (PHA) in the final for the British Renewable Energy Awards in London.

The Cornish group was shortlisted at the Café Royal presentations with British Telecom, Community Renewable Energy, the Radian Group and the Arcola Theatre for the Pioneer Award, won by Marks and Spencer.

Denys Stephens, the Association’s Sustainability Manager, said they were in the finals for their work with ground source heat pumps over the past ten years.“With national fuel prices rising rapidly more people are thinking about alternatives” he remarked.

They were national pioneers with ground source heat pumps at Marazionin 1998 and have since carried out these schemes at Ludgvan, St Levan and Trewellard, with the most recent one, just completed, at four homes at Newbridge.

The PHA initiatives were being mirrored throughout Cornwall, with people realising the advantages of these pumps and solar heating.“The fuel goal posts are now currently being moved at such a pace that new and modern techniques are coming to the forefront” he added.

The renewable energy industry was celebrating the third year of these awards, recognising achievement in the UK.

“The considerable number of high-quality nominees displays the scope of talent and originality that exists within this industry” said Philip Wolfe, the Renewable Energy Awards Chief Executive.
