Record Building

Record home building for rent has been achieved by a leading Cornish housing group.

new build“Over the past year 297 homes have come into Penwith Housing Association (PHA) management” said Andy Moore, the Chief Executive at Penzance. “That is a record for additional rented homes in the 15 years of the Association. This is for the year up to September and we have now ledged planning applications with the Cornwall Council for over 100 more. Many of our towns and villages could benefit from this”.

The 297 are spread throughout the county including St Ives; Hayle; Redruth; Helston; Carbis Bay; Liskeard and Four Lanes. At Bodmin over 20 more have been provided. “We have never had such a total completed in one year” Mr Moore added. “The Government Homes and Communities Agency has brought forward some of its future funding into the current year as a boost to the construction industry and the economy in general. And because of the competitive building prices, we have been able to offer better value with lower cost and lower grant for each home”.

This remarkable progress in house building is a product of PHA’s partnership with Devon and Cornwall Housing Association (DCHA). “Clearly it is very good news and demonstrates that we have both been very busy throughout the year” he commented.

Gail Hunt, the Chair of PHA has been elected vice-chair of the DCH Trust, the parent group of the PHA, DCHA and Tor Homes that now has responsibility for more than 17,000 homes in the two counties.
