PHA fun-day at Bude
A fun-day organised by Penwith Housing Association (PHA) part of the Devon & Cornwall Housing group, was a tremendous success in bringing together the community and reaching younger families.
The event took place at the Elizabeth Road Play Park, Broad Close in Bude. As well as offering residents the chance to find out about PHA services and how they could get involved, there were many fun activities ranging from junk percussion workshops, to making ‘Rio’ hats ready for the Bude Carnival.
Mai Evans, PHA Community Development Worker said: “We planned the day so that there was something for everyone and the sunny weather helped to make it a fantastic day with a great turn-out. It was also a chance to share ideas about what different generations thought could improve their neighbourhood.”
Children, their parents and even some grand-parents enjoyed the day; learning new skills such as juggling, stilt-walking and uni-cycling, but the most popular activities of the day were face-painting and sumo-suit wrestling.
One local resident commented: “It was brilliant how the whole community came together and joined in the fun.” Clive Pledger, member of PHA’s Peninsula Tenants’ Committee added: “It was a great collage of old and young; a throwback to the community spirit of a bye-gone age.”
Many other agencies contributed towards the success of the day including the police, fire-service, Children’s Centre and the Young People’s Centre.
