PHA Garden Competition Winners 2011

Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Putt, from Penalverne, Penzance, who recently received Penwith Housing Association’s award for Best Overall Garden. PHA, part of Devon & Cornwall Housing group, holds the popular and competitive residents’ gardening competition each year.

The trophy was presented to Mr and Mrs PUtt by judges Carol Bosworth and Paul Osborne from the Peninsula Tenants' CommitteeThe trophy was presented to Mr and Mrs Putt by two of the judges, Carol Bosworth and Paul Williams, members of PHA’s Peninsula Tenants’ Committee. Mr and Mrs Putt, who are both retired claim that the secret to their success is plenty of hard work. Despite health problems, the couple manage to keep on top of their front and back gardens all year round to ensure it is bursting with flowers and vegetables.

Mrs Putt said: “We don’t have a great deal of time to sit in our garden but enjoy looking at it and working on it. We especially like all of the colours.” Mr Putt added: “We really enjoy gardening; we make our own compost and grow most of our plants from seeds.”

Their enthusiasm must be contagious since they also share plants and vegetables with their neighbours; their grandson won the tallest sunflower competition and their son won the best floral display!
