Lucie Sominka, Development Officer for Devon & Cornwall Housing, said; “Local people who are interested in living in one of these lovely brand new homes, whether it is for rent or HomeBuy, must be registered with Cornwall Council’s Homechoice Register. Once they are registered they are given their own registration number and a banding, with band A being the highest need down to band E, this is determined by the individuals circumstances and housing situation.
“Once an applicant is registered, they can bid for homes which are of interest to them. The homes will be advertised on the Cornwall Homechoice website, in Councils One Stop Shops and in the Saturday edition of the Western Morning News. Cornwall Homechoice generally nominates the bidder in the greatest needs who meets the local connection criteria. Penwith Housing Association will then carry out standard checks as per their policy before offering the applicant a tenancy.
“At Boslowen, the affordable homes are limited to people from the old Kerrier District where the applicant or a member of their household must have a strong local connection. A strong local connection in this case could be any of the following:
- they were born in the parish (or parents resident at time of birth)
- educated whilst resident in the Kerrier District where they were under the age of 18 years
- they live in the Kerrier District and have done continuously for at least the previous 5 years
- they have lived in the Kerrier District at a previous time for at least 5 years
- they currently work and have done so for at least the last 3 continuous years.
“Cornwall Council will decide who is nominated for these homes in accordance with the terms and conditions of the local connection criteria.
“If you have a strong local connection to the old Kerrier District, and you are interested in finding out more about these fantastic affordable homes in Camborne, please contact Devon & Cornwall Housing on 01392 814583.”
Mark Kaczmarek, Cornwall Council Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning said: “I am delighted that families with a strong local connection will be able to benefit from this much needed housing on this brown field site in Camborne.”
