PHA obtains an eviction for anti-social behaviour
Reinforcing a Cornish home group's commitment to dealing positively with anti-social behaviour, an eviction order has been obtained on a St Ives tenant.
After years of suffering, residents in a street in the resort town can resume a life of peace and quiet after Penwith Housing Association (PHA) – with over 6,000 homes under its management in the county – was successful in obtaining an eviction order against “one of the most notorious nuisance tenants”.
A PHA spokesman commented “For the nearby residents the success at Exeter County Court marked the end of an era of serious and sustained anti-social behaviour. Drink fuelled nuisance; loud music; fighting; police activity; vomiting and urinating in the streets; criminal damage and harassment were all cited in the case put to the Judge”.
On hearing the evidence the Judge ordered outright possession in seven days.
It was at 6.00 am one morning that several St Ives residents with officers from PHA; Police; Environmental Health together with Anti-Social Behaviour officers set off for Exeter Court in a bid to secure the eviction of “one of PHA’s most anti-social tenants” It was said later “The Association owes the success of the case to the residents who attended the hearing and provided invaluable evidence and to the excellent multi-agency working. Eviction is regarded as a last resort, where all else has failed but the Association will, where appropriate, take relevant action”.
