More Ground Source Heating

PHA installs ground source heating to homes in Marazion

Nearing completion at Marazion is a 21st century project that will save heating costs. It is a ground source heat pump installation to 23 Penwith Housing Association (PHA) properties in Trevenner Lane, backed by over £100,000 funding by power supplier E-On.

The Association placed its latest order for them to install the revolutionary ‘HeatPlant’ pump system. This follows the successful national award winning work in West Cornwall five years ago when PHA became the first in the UK to retrofit ground source heat pumps in existing social housing.

“We are very grateful to E-On for their help and co-operation” said Chief Executive, Andy Moore.

The ‘HeatPlants’ are worth £11,500 each and can reduce heating costs by two-thirds as well as being more convenient and reducing CO2 emissions by three quarters.

Denys Stephens, The PHA Sustainability Manager, commented: “Our past experience in using these systems has shown they are an excellent means of giving our customers in ‘off-gas areas’ affordable and effective heating. The funding has been of great assistance in enabling work to be included in our Decent Homes improvement programme”.

It is estimated that 41% of homes in the county are not on a mains gas supply.
