Decent Homes Update

Work continues on Decent Homes

DH KitchenThe multi-million pound project, started in 2004, to improve thousands of homes, mainly in West Cornwall, is heading towards its final stage.

“It is still on budget and up to speed” said Andy Moore, Chief Executive of Penwith Housing Association (PHA) who has paid tribute to the huge overall achievement led by Jonathan Sprague (Director of Property Services) and Frank Lashbrook (Technical Services Manager), their team and the main contractors.

“The giant Decent Homes programme bringing new kitchens, bathrooms and heating continues to the end of 2010, covering over 3,000 properties. The cost of the whole programme when completed will approach £28 million.

We are on target to complete by the end of next year, as promised. Some neighbourhoods at the back end of the programme are not currently failing the Decent Homes standard and work to these will be carried out after 2010.”

Work is now being completed on 124 homes in St Erth, St Ives, Halsetown and Ludgvan by contractors, ahead of schedule.

“We have recently completed Decent Homes work and soundproofing at Dolphin Court, Mousehole and have begun further schemes at Penzance.” Mr Moore added. Contracts at Gwavas, Newlyn for kitchens and bathrooms are also under way and the final phase at Treneere has just been completed.

Under a contract set up to deal with homes that become empty and are in need of major Decent Homes work. “We completed 30 homes throughout Cornwall by the end of September, making them ready for rent” said Mr Moore.
