Considerate Constructors Scheme Award

Penwith Housing Association and Mears Building Group achieve a national award from the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

A ‘first’ for Cornwall and the Penwith Housing Association (PHA) has come with a national award and high praise from the Considerate Constructors Scheme for the Mears Building Group who have been working on almost 100 homes at Marazion. The scheme is a national initiate created by the industry in three categories – the environment, the workforce and the general public.

The best performing sites are recognised with annual national awards which will be presented in London in April.

At Marazion the firm has been responsible for replacing kitchens and bathrooms at 96 houses in a 14 week programme.

“Mears are one of the four contractors in the multi-million pound ‘Decent Homes’ project on our thousands of homes to 2010” said Andy Moore, Penwith Housing Association’s Chief Executive. “We congratulate them on their award. They have worked well with our residents to make the refurbishment of their homes a success. This is a first for PHA and Mears and we are extremely proud. From reports received we have scored highly in every category, which is exceptional. They have also been carrying out contract estate painting for us”.

David Price, the Mears branch manager at Falmouth, commented “We have been working hard to achieve recognition from the Considerate Construction Scheme for some time. This is a really fantastic achievement and not only praises the work of the Falmouth-Penryn team but Mears’ policies regarding customer care and the environment”.

The Mears and Association relationship spans a number of years. The huge ‘Decent Homes’ programme continues to progress on time.
