Alverton Nursery

Connaughts improve facilities at Alverton Nursery as a thank you to the residents of Alverton Estate.

Alverton NurseryChildren at Alverton School Nursery at Penzance are looking forward to a ‘Teddy Bears Picnic’ to celebrate the major makeover of their play area.

“It is fantastic – absolutely wonderful” said Janice Jarvis, director of the neighbourhood nursery and school secretary. “Connaughts have done an amazing job”. The old space has been transformed by building company, Connaughts, as a ‘thank you’ to Alverton estate residents and Penwith Housing Association (PHA). Connaughts have just completed important work at homes on the estate as part of the PHA ten-year giant multi-million pound ‘Decent Homes’ project covering thousands of properties in Cornwall.

With the play area they are giving something back to the community through their social responsibility policy.

Tony Lacrouts, partnership manager for Connaughts commented “We hope young people will benefit over the years from the play area. It is with our thanks to the tenants on completion of the modernisation work. As a company we speak to the local people and ask what is wanted. This was their choice.”

Jonathan Sprague, Director of Property Services for PHA stated “Connaughts are one of our key partners in our multi-million pound decent homes programme and we agreed with them that it would be a nice gesture to thank the residents of Alverton for their co-operation in the recently completed major works contract by helping in the local nursery.

Among the many improvements and extra features were the creating and re-laying of paths, turfing areas, steps, laying flooring for a wet area in the 1-2 year old children’s room, providing bird tables and planters, power washing all surfaces and replacing old trellising.

Janice said the nursery was now planning to put in a bid for patio doors leading direct from the classroom to the new play area.
