PHA children's garden competition winners

Three budding young gardeners receive prizes from Penzance Mayor, Roy Mann

Childrens Garden Comp WinnersThree Penzance children, with delightful names, received their garden competition prizes from Mayor, Roy Mann, in his parlour and also stayed for tea.

Those in front are 4 year old Kaelin Metcalfe and his 7 year old sister Nayana, who live at Treneere. Their mother, Jessica, a member of the new Peninsula Tenants Committee says Kaelin is a Celtic name meaning ‘waterfall pool’ and Nayana is Sanskrit for ‘lovely eyes’.

Behind them is Saffron Dallimore, 11, of Penalverne whose mother, Debra (far left), said the garden was a great help to her daughter who is autistic. “She has lots of pot plants and a small greenhouse. The flowers looked beautiful and when the weather improves she will be out there again. If she is keen on something, Saffron will give it 110%”.

Jessica (second left) said her children had their own section of their large garden as well as helping with the whole area. “They had their own vegetable patch for whatever they wanted to grow” she added.

The children received gift vouchers.

The judges for the Penwith Housing Association (PHA) were Sue Mitchell and Carol Bosworth. Also in the picture, from left, are Terry Dallimore, Sue Mitchell and Paul Duffy (Head of Housing).
